Project Overview
Industrial Demolition Services (IDS) along with their joint venture partner, were awarded the contract for Bayinguwa (Garden Island) Wharf realignment project for PSG Holdings in partnership with Lendlease.
The project involved the two stage removal of a wharf infrastructure at the Garden Island naval base
Scope of Work
The project consisted of two stages completed over a span of eight months.
Stage one of the project involved the removal of a section of the cruiser wharf, the demolition of a two-story structure, and the removal of the existing oil wharf.
Stage two involved the removal of the remainder of the cruiser wharf.
Challenges
IDS were cognisant of the duty to protect the marine environment and ensure no materials, contaminated or otherwise, were leaked into Port Jackson Bay. This was achieved by deploying a silt curtain to catch any debris and by observing strict material removal processes.
Results
The project was completed on time and with no major incidents or injuries. In total, IDS removed 6800 m2 of degraded wharf structure, 500 tonnes of concrete, 500 tonnes of steel, and over 90 loads of timber.
