Melbourne , Australia
IDS are often called upon to dismantle part of a manufacturing plant or to make modifications within a live environment. Australian Sugar’s Yarraville Refinery in Melbourne is Australia’s longest established sugar refinery having been established on the site in 1873. Many modifications have been made to the site and plant over the years to allow for advancements in the highly automated production and packaging infrastructure, which can produce up to 300,000 tonnes per year.
Scope of Work
Recent site developments saw the installation of a new steam generator on the site of a former carpenter’s workshop. As the workshop shared supporting columns with the adjacent roof and trusses, a temporary structural support was fabricated and installed to support these while work commenced on lowering the floor some three metres to match that of the adjacent steam generation building. IDS removed a significant area of concrete slabs, retaining walls, soil and rock and prepared the area to allow for the installation of the new generation equipment.
