Glen Huntly, VIC
Industrial Demolition Services (IDS) was contracted by Southern Program Alliance (SPA) to undertake the demolition and removal of Glen Huntly Station buildings and platform. An absolute rail occupation timeframe of 40hrs was required as part of the Victorian Government Level Crossing Removal Projects.
The works were part of a series of station removals. IDS had already completed contracts with Southern Program Alliance for similar works at Chelsea, Montmorency and Diamond Creek Stations.
Scope of works
The scope of works for Glen Huntly Station included:
- site establishment
- demolition and removal of station buildings
- removal of station platform and infill
Meeting two key timeframes was critical to a successful project program. The demolition works of nominated structures and removal of all generated waste had to be completed within a period of 40 hours. Additionally, specific areas had to be handed over to the client, within the first 24 hours, for civil works.
With such a short timeframe, thorough planning was required in consultation with SPA and other rail teams, to ensure the scope of works could be delivered.
The 40 hour schedule was split into continuous day and night shifts with experienced personnel engaged to operate multiple plant and equipment simultaneously.
Efficient and effective communication on site and with SPA throughout project ensured work went smoothly without any disruptive issues.
IDS successfully completed the Glen Huntly Station demolition and removal within the project budget and both timelines, as per the Southern Program Alliance’s requirements.
Approximately 4000 tonnes of platform infill, and 500 tonnes of concrete/bricks were removed in the 40 hour window without any major incidents or injuries.
Cultural diversity, health & safety, and environmental aspects of project were also achieved as per SPA’s requirements.
